My name is Juan Calderon.

I am from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For the past 21 years my family and I have lived in the historic Pigsville Valley community. However, prior to Milwaukee my family immigrated from Palmillas, Zacatecas, Mexico. My family are descendants of Mexican Farm Hands.

Currently I am pursuing a degree in Political Science with a minor in Public Relations at Marquette University. I plan on attending graduate school after undergrad. Although I have yet a considerable way to go when it comes to education, My career goals after graduation encompass public service. Growing up I witnessed many awe-inspiring moments in American Politics: the rise of political underdogs, the fight for adequate health coverage, and the pursuance of a more innovating American society. I plan on working for organizations that triumph the fundamental issues that trouble communities of color in the United States. I eventually do plan to run for public office. My dream is to run for the U.S. Senate.

I picked up my minor in Public Relations amidst distinct circumstances. I needed classes to reamain full-time. However, PR did interest me nonetheless. I found that Political Science and Public Relations would be an effective way of combining politics and policy with communication and strategic planning.

My goal for this class is to enhance my ability to convey the necessary information within my writing without confusion; to use as little as possible to portray the overarching picture in my writing. I can often times sway away from the purpose of a paper and confuse with technical jargon as I am acustomed to in political writing. I hope to change that through this class. Similarly, I hope to learn more about PR strategies to adequately communicate amidst different publics.

For about a year, I have always wanted to start a blog to discuss various topics in American Politics that may confuse people. This could be my start, though initially, that transitions into such endeavor.

Within this class I would like to place particular focus on enhancing my ability to convey adequate information effectively. In doing so, I believe that I would be able to communicate with anyone, regardless of the divide, socially, economically, or politically, with relative ease. I am excited.
